June Meeting Notes

Quilt Show
The coordinators are looking for a scrapbooker to assist them with a project for the quilt show. Please contact Brenda or Gail if you are able to assist.
The Flyers and Post Cards are now available – please get some copies and deliver them to Guilds, Quilt Stores and other places where you think people will be interested in attending the Show!
Cathy will be handling the quilts for the Paint Chip and Heart Preemie Challenges Display. Please let her know if you have quilts to show in this section.
Kari is still in need for items to fill the prize baskets – look for items over the summer and get them to her as soon as possible.
Workshop for Boutique items. Come to the Drop In Location on Saturday June 14th to work on items for the boutique – Jenni and Julie will have some kits to sew – or bring something that you want to work on. This will be a fun day and make lots of goodies for our sale.
The Block Raffle is still looking for about 38 small quilts, one block quilts, or others from postcard to small wallhanging size. These blocks will be in daily raffles at the show. Spend a day and show off some of your best work in a small quilt to grace someone else’s house.
Finally – Please use the registration form here to register your quilt for the show as soon as possible. Note that the picture doesn’t necessarily need to be the finished product – a picture of the quilt top will let the hangers know what is coming and they can establish where the quilt will be hung at the show.

The Community Quilt still needs more blocks – how about doing one or more and taking them to the Summer Retreat. Shirley will be there to receive the blocks and would like to have them all in by the October meeting. The pattern is here.

Hawthorne Lodge, a Seniors Care Facility in Port Coquitlam asked the Board if someone would be interested in making a quilt for a new room in their facility. The room is a family room for end of life patients that is due to open very soon, and the staff had been very impressed with the quilts done by the guild for Crossroads hospice. It happens that a quilt was being finished that seemed to fit the bill and was looking for a good home – the center is a butterfly – the symbol chosen to represent the room. So, by serendipity – Hawthorne will have its quilt in time for the official press release about the room – June 10th at 4:30.

Peggy Gelbrecht gave a wonderful trunk show after the business meeting. Her quilts were mostly traditional, and very varied. Her classes on the weekend were well received.

It was a good end of season meeting – and it will probably be my last meeting with the guild. Edna and I were wonderfully surprised by the beautiful quilt and the book we were presented with on your behalf. We will miss the guild when we move to Armstrong, but we will keep in touch. Thanks to everyone who provided a block, have their picture in the book, or worked on the quilt!
Sorry – my pictures don’t want to upload today – I’ll keep trying!
